Day by day, I saw these flowers and oftentimes ran over them with the lawnmower and yet I didn't consider. Seen as weeds in my eyes for a time I was in wonder in the amount that had grown in a short amount of time. So wondrous how they spread and leave behind plush beds of green leaves. I pondered outside in the rays of the summer sun one evening watching the bees diligently hover and land on flower after flower. It wasn't until I fully engaged my sight when it began to make sense. The bees know the difference between quality flowers and weeds. I searched and found a "hidden" medicinal.
White clover
~ Leaves edible (raw or cooked)
~ Can be used in salads or soups
~Flowers edible, roots can be eaten if cooked
~Cherokee, Iroquois, Mohegan, Delaware and Algonkian Native American peoples used it, especially in teas to treat colds and coughs.
~ Treats Leucorrhea, counteracts scrofula, purifies blood, cleanse boils, sores and wounds.
~Heals diseases of the eye and is a tonic.
Delighted and excited I began my preparation to enjoy for the first time white clover tea. :) It was delicious and sweet. Free flow Friday teaches me to slow down, be light hearted, and enjoy the simple things. It's a great day to connect to my inner explorer, inner child and be in the moment. Simply bring water to a boil. While the water is boiling wash flowers well and remove any debris or little friends that may be clinging on. Once boiled, turn off heat and add in white clover flowers. Let steep for 5 minutes. Relax & INjoy.
